Text Messages (SMS)

You can receive text messages on your Smart Number and answer them or send new ones from the Web Portal, mobile app or any phone using speech or touchtone commands. A copy of text messages received on your Smart Number can also be sent to your email account and SMS on your mobile phone. This feature is available only to users who have the Smart Number service with the SMS option enabled.

Your text messages can be managed at several locations:

  • On the Web Portal: All the text messages that you receive or send are accessible on your Web Portal. You can view them and manage them in addition to composing and sending new ones from your Web interface. The text messages page is accessible from the Home page on your Web Portal by clicking the Texts icon. The number of messages is indicated in parentheses. From this page, you can:
    1. Read your text messages.
    2. Send new text messages.
    3. Reply to text messages.
    4. Delete text messages.
    5. Update / Refresh the list of text messages.
    6. Call the person who sent the text message using WebPhone.
  • On your mobile app: All the text messages that you receive or send are also accessible on your mobile app. You can view them and manage them in addition to composing and sending new ones from your mobile phone or tablet. The text messages page is accessible from the Home page on your mobile app by taping the Texts icon.
  • On your mobile phone: A copy of your text messages received can be sent to you as SMS on your mobile phone if you activated this option under Settings > SMS Options. See SMS Options to for details.
  • In your Inbox: A copy of your incoming text messages can also be sent to you as emails if you activated this option under Settings > SMS Options. See SMS Options to for details.
  • By phone using speech commands: You can have your Virtual Assistant call you and offer to read you your incoming text messages on the phone number of your choice in addition to giving you the option to reply using your own voice. See SMS Options or Voice Commands for details.

Overview of the Interface

This page lists the text message exchanges (sent and received) that you made using your Smart Number. The list displays the following information:

Check the box next to one or several items in order to apply certain actions (ex: delete).

Contact

Phone number of the person with whom the text messages were exchanged (sent / received). Click this link to dial the phone number using WebPhone.

Reception Date

Date and time when the most recent text message sent or received (in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS).

Content

Text message content. Click this link to view the text messages exchanged and to reply to the last text message received.

Read Text Messages

To access a text message exchange from the Web Portal:

  • Click Home in the main menu.
  • Click the Texts icon to display the Text messages page.
  • In the list of text messages, click the Content link to read the message exchange.
  • The new page will display the exchange of text messages, including the name and/or phone number of the sender, the message content as well as the date and time of the message.
  • You can reply to the message by typing your message in the reply field and click Send.

Send Text Messages from the Web Portal

To send text messages from the Web Portal:

  • Click Home in the main menu.
  • Click the Texts icon to display the Text messages page, then click the Compose button
  • In the To field, enter the name or phone number of the recipient. A dropdown list displays possible recipients retrieved from your contacts, colleagues and call history. If you type a name that is not recognized, delete the name and enter the recipient's phone number in Standard telephone format (ex.: 514-555-5555).
  • Message: Type your text message in the Message field.
  • Click the Send button.

Reply to a Text Message

To reply to a text message from the Web Portal:

  • Click Home in the main menu.
  • Click the Texts icon to display the Text messages page.
  • In the list of text messages, click the content link to open the message thread.
  • The new page will display the thread of the text messages, including the name and/or phone number of the sender, the message content as well as the date and time of the message.
  • Enter your message in the reply field and click Send.

Delete Text Messages

To delete a text message from your Web Portal:

  • Click Home in the main menu.
  • Click the Texts icon to display the Text messages page.
  • Click the box next to the message threads that you want to delete. To select all message threads, click the box in the heading row.
  • Click the Delete button.
  • A popup window will ask you to confirm the deletion. Click OK to delete the text message.

Refresh Text Messages List

The list of your text messages is updated each time you access the Text messages page. You can also manually refresh the list of text messages at anytime as follows:

  • Click Home in the main menu.
  • Click the Texts icon to display the Text messages page.
  • Click the Refresh button to update the list and content of text message threads.

Dial a Number Using WebPhone

The system includes a WebPhone which allows you to dial phone numbers directly from the Web Portal interface. Click any phone number listed in the Text messages table to dial it using WebPhone. Before dialing the number, you can choose to have the WebPhone call you on one of your office extensions or phone numbers on connect you, or directly use your Web Portal with your computer's microphone and speakers.
